GENERAL RULES FOR USE AND CARE FOR JEWELRY
FROM PRECIOUS METALS AND FOR PRODUCTS WITH PRECIOUS STONES.
1.
Jewelry should be taken off before
going to bed, heading to the gym, pool, shower, sea and etc. While sunbathing
and heading to the sauna or solarium. Water can not only damage the surface of
precious metals, but cold water also reduces the size of your fingers, so you
can lose your ring, and sea waves can discreetly wash away your earrings or
chain.
2.
Do not wear jewelry when doing
household or outdoor work, cooking or any other occasion where jewelry may be
exposed to thermal, mechanical or chemical agents. Chemicals, rough earth, or
work tools can irreparably damage the surface of jewelry or gemstones, and food
debris can end up in hard-to-reach places on jewelry.
3.
Do not wear jewelry while dressing
warmly during the cold season. Knitted sweaters or scarves can snag on earrings
or rings and tear the garment. It is undesirable to wear products under a thick
layer of clothing or with clothing adjacent to the body, as in this case the
products may deform.
4.
When wearing jewelry with precious
and semi-precious stones, it should be borne in mind that: in case of sudden
changes in temperature, the stone may change its color; some stones (topaz,
ruby, amethyst, turquoise, pearls, pomegranates, etc.) fade under the influence
of sunlight, so they should be stored in a dark place (jewelry box); Products
containing pearls and corals should be handled with extreme care as these
stones are natural and can be easily damaged.
5.
It is not recommended: to hang the
pendant on a chain that weighs 0.8-1.3 grams; wear a pendant on a chain that
weighs more than the chain; wearing several pendants on one chain (in this
case, the products may be damaged); clean jewelry with toothpaste, sand or
other abrasive products; allow products to come into contact with cosmetic
products (perfume, hairspray, etc.); mechanical and / or chemical damage to
products with rhodium, matte or oxidized coatings is unacceptable.
6.
Never change the screws securing
the earrings, so as not to damage the thread of the earring.
7.
Protect all jewelry from any
mechanical damage: avoid angular surfaces, contact with objects that can cause
scratches, dents and other damage. If dropped to the ground, precious stones
may fall out of the product or other deformation may occur.
8.
Use body lotions, sunscreens,
perfumes, detergents, oils, make-up products, hairsprays and other perfumes
only after removing all jewelry, as body care products can leave marks on
jewelry, covering them opaque film, which spoils their appearance. Perfumes can
permanently damage the surface of jewelry.
9.
If dirt has accumulated in
hard-to-reach cavities in jewelry or under stones, do not clean them yourself
with hard or sharp objects, in which case take them to a professional jewelry
workshop.
10.
Store jewelry only in separate
boxes, bags or larger boxes with separate compartments. It is important that
the stored products do not touch each other - this will protect them from
scratches and discoloration. Do not store jewelry in the bathroom, as moisture
can cause unpleasant changes in the appearance of jewelry.
11.
Keep chains only neatly folded.
Don't pull on the chains when wearing them!
12.
Unused jewelry will lose color and
oxidize. They should be thoroughly wiped with a soft cotton cloth or a special
silver and gold polishing cloth. Please note that cleaning will not remove
scratches.
13.
Silver can oxidize over time (turn
black). Silver jewelry becomes even more vulnerable in summer: sweat, chlorine
and moisture cause oxidation of silver, such are its chemical properties. Body
care products, sunscreens, and perfumes also oxidize silver. It can darken even
if it is stored with gold jewelry, or if it is simply stored in a box for a
long time. Be sure to remove all silver jewelry when playing sports and
swimming. They also cannot be stored in the bathroom due to the presence of
moisture there. Some silver jewelry can be rhodium-plated to protect it from
oxidation and rapid wear. Other silverware is already being sold oxidized to
create this look. Never clean such jewelry with chemicals.
14.
Platinum jewelry is the most
scratch resistant and therefore has an advantage over other jewelry. However,
jewelry made of platinum, especially non-massive ones, can still lose shape,
bend when wearing heavy objects, squeezed in a doorway, etc. Protect such
jewelry from mechanical damage.
15.
Gold is a precious metal that is
also highly resistant to temporary and external influences, but the surface of
gold items is quite soft, especially if the gold is of a higher purity, so
protect them from scratches. You can immediately choose rings with a rough
surface - they will look original and do not require such maintenance. One of
the oldest, most sophisticated and original solutions for decorating gold is
the use of jewelry enamel: it tastefully covers the surface of a gold product,
while the enamel is scratch-resistant and does not fade over time. Usually gold
is encrusted with various precious stones. It would be nice if you could professionally
clean and update such jewelry every year, but under no circumstances use sharp
tools to clean the caste holding the stones - you can loosen them and lose them
over time.
16.
Diamonds are extremely durable,
scratch resistant and retain their shine for a long time. But they are not
indestructible. Diamonds can crack from a sudden blow, loosen or be lost due to
loose attachment, and can also be damaged by contact with other diamonds. Wear
them carefully. Store them in soft boxes or soft bags, separate from other
jewelry. Wipe jewelry with a lint-free cloth. You can also briefly immerse the
diamond in a special cleaning solution. To keep your jewelry beautiful for a
long time, periodically contact the jeweler so that he can clean the diamonds,
check if they have become loose in the product.
17.
Pearls lose their luster due to
the strong concentration of chemicals. Remember, pearls are not diamonds, they
are organic gemstones of natural origin. Perfume, vinegar, detergents, lemon
juice, essential oils, lotion, or sweat can damage their surface and even
change the color of the pearls. The heat causes the pearls to turn brown.
Remove jewelry when washing your hands. After wearing, wipe the pearls with a
soft, dry cotton cloth.
18.
Silk is a natural fiber. In order
for silk jewelry to retain its unique properties and serve for a long time, it
is necessary to follow the basic rules of silk care. Natural silk fibers are
fragile and less resistant to dirt than other materials. Often, when worn, its
color gradually fades. Silk fiber is weakened by deodorants, perfumes, solvents
(eg hair or nail varnish, disinfectant). During sweat, natural silk is damaged
by salts and acids, so it is recommended to wash it at least once a week with
warm water and natural soap.
19.
At least once every 2-3 years,
depending on the intensity of use, the jewelry should be referred to a
professional jeweler - he will renew and correct them. Thus, the jewelry will
always look new, shining and bright. Note: by giving the product to the
jeweler, he assumes responsibility for the product. UAB "Tomas Gold"
does not give any guarantees for jewelry and cannot be held responsible for the
repair work of another jeweler.
